Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in the final of the 2000-01 UEFA Champions League at the San Siro in Milan, Italy. Giovane Elber scored the opening goal for Bayern in the sixth minute, and Stefan Effenberg doubled their lead in the 50th minute. Raul pulled one back for Real Madrid in the 60th minute, but Bayern held on to win their fourth European Cup title.

The match was a rematch of the 1998 final, which Real Madrid won 1-0. Bayern Munich were determined to get revenge, and they started the match strongly. Elber opened the scoring with a header from a corner kick, and Bayern continued to dominate the first half. Effenberg made it 2-0 with a powerful shot from outside the area, and Bayern looked to be in control of the match.

However, Real Madrid came out strong in the second half, and Raul pulled one back for the Spanish side with a header. Real Madrid continued to press for an equalizer, but Bayern held on to their lead and eventually won the match.

The victory was a major triumph for Bayern Munich, and it was their first European Cup title since 1976. It was also a significant moment for German football, as it was the first time that a German team had won the European Cup since Borussia Dortmund in 1997.
