A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 struck Southern California on Tuesday, shaking areas as far away as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sacramento. The epicenter of the earthquake was located near the community of Lamont, about 18 miles southwest of Bakersfield.
According to the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), over 38 aftershocks have been recorded since the main earthquake. The largest aftershock had a magnitude of 3.8.
Residents in the affected areas reported feeling the tremors, which caused buildings to sway and furniture to rattle. No major damage or injuries have been reported at this time.
The earthquake is a reminder of the importance of earthquake preparedness. Cal OES recommends that Californians have an emergency plan in place and practice earthquake drills regularly.
