Manchester United snubs midfielder despite player’s desire to join
Premier League giants decide against making a move for Dutch international
Frenkie de Jong sees his hopes of a move to Old Trafford dashed, for now
Manchester United are reportedly no longer interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and will instead look at alternative targets.
Despite the Dutchman being open to a move to the Premier League, reports claim that United are unwilling to match Barcelona’s asking price for the player.
It is thought that United will now move on to other midfield targets, with Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham and West Ham United's Declan Rice both being linked with moves to Old Trafford.
De Jong, who has been capped over 40 times by the Netherlands, has been one of Barcelona's most impressive performers in recent seasons.
The 25-year-old is a dynamic and versatile midfielder who is capable of playing in a variety of positions.
He is also a good passer and has an eye for goal.
However, United are looking at other midfielders such as Bellingham due to both price and because De Jong's style doesn't fit Erik Ten Hag's system as well as the other options.
De Jong is reportedly "dreaming" of a move to Old Trafford, but it seems that his dream will not become a reality this summer.
It remains to be seen whether United will make a move for De Jong in the future.
But for now, it seems that the Dutchman will have to stay at Barcelona.
